35th Residence

Traditional meets modern in the renovation and addition of this Foursquare Prairie house. Revived original spaces and details meld with new, modern and more open spaces toward the back. A clever shifting of walls resulted in a more efficient floor plan, thus minimizing the depth of the new addition at the rear.

The main living spaces were designed for easy living and entertaining between the inside and outside. Full height windows visually connect the new family room to the yard. Beyond, a screen porch steps down to an open deck that further steps down to a patio, a solution that mitigates the extreme grade drop from the main floor.

This project won an award from Washington Spaces magazine for Best Architectural Spaces. Rina was designer & manager for this house while working for the firm Hamilton Snowber Architects.
