Watson Residence
The addition to this Colonial house included a front porch, second story side wings, and a rear bump-out on the main floor. Respecting the traditional lines of the existing house, the new porch and side wings were designed as seamless additions as viewed from the street.
At the rear, the design breaks free and becomes more playful. The massing of the new family room with its oversized windows extenuated by transoms and soffits that tilt up, pushes up and out from the adjacent breakfast area and kitchen. Outside, steps of stone retaining walls border a new patio that was carved into the earth.
An existing side wing was renovated to accommodate a new entrance and mudroom. Second floor additions above the side wings introduced an exercise area and closet to the master bedroom as well as a shared study room for the children. An added shed dormer transformed the attic to a comfortable size guest room and private office.
Rina was designer & manager for this house while working for the firm Hamilton Snowber Architects.
